The Akwa Ibom State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja is set to deliver judgment in the petition brought against the election of Governor Udom Emmanuel by the APC Governorship candidate in the April polls, Mr. Umana Okon Umana.
The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice A. S. Umar, announced this Thursday after the conclusion of proceedings and adoption of oral and written addresses by counsels in the matter, saying that a date for the verdict will be communicated to the parties involved.
He commended the mature presentations by counsels of both parties and called on younger generation of lawyers to emulate their senior colleagues.
Justice Umar said the mature conduct made the job of the tribunal easier.
Addressing newsmen, the lead counsel to Governor Udom Emmanuel, Paul Usoro, said it was left for the tribunal to give judgment after the adoption of final addresses.
On his part, Counsel to Mr. Umana Okon Umana, Solomon Umoh, said he was waiting for the verdict.
Counsel to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tayo Oyetiba and that of INEC, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu also spoke with journalists after the Court proceedings affirming that election took place in Akwa Ibom State.
Also, the State Chairman of PDP, Mr. Paul Ekpo, flanked by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Uwemedimo Nwoko, as well as his Information counterpart, Mr. Aniekan Umanah expressed confidence that the tribunal will uphold the election of the PDP candidate.
