The Chairman of the State Branch of the University of Lagos Alumni Association, Senator Effiong Bob, has stressed the need for interest groups to always present good candidates at election to enhance their chances of winning.
Senator Bob was speaking at the monthly General Meeting of the association in Uyo, in reaction to last month’s election of a member of the Branch Deaconess Arit Ibanga as the Second National Vice – President of the University of Lagos Alumni Association.
The Senator who is also the pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the University of Benin said Deaconess Arit Ibanga’s quality was responsible for her victory at the contest.
He applauded the cooperation and goodwill of members which made Deaconess Arit Ibanga’s elevation possible.
In her remarks, Deaconess Arit Ibanga who thanked the branch members for their support attributed her status in life to the learning acquired in the University of Lagos and the various institutions she attended.
At the meeting, the association set up various committees among them the Finance/Fund Raising Committee headed by the Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akan Okon; Secretariat Building Committee with Senator Effiong Bob as Chairman, the Welfare/Social Committee with Barrister Jerry Akpan as Chairman while the Publicity Committee has Mr. Inyang James as Chairman.
In attendance at the meeting were elders of the association, corps members and others including Sir S. U. Akpan, Justice Andrew Okon retired, Justice Ini Udobong, and a one time member of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Iniobong Essiet.
