Some members of the Akwa United Football supporters Club were involved in an automobile accident at Ekparakwa Junction in Oruk Anam Local Government Area on their way to Post Harcourt.
The accident which claimed the life of one of the occupants of the vehicles while others sustained injuries is said to have been caused by brake failure.
The victims were taken to St. Athanasius Hospital, Ufe Street and Ibom Clinic, off Nkemba Street all in Uyo.
One of the early callers at the hospital was the immediate past Chairman of Akwa United Football Club, Akparawah Nse Ube who expressed sadness at the occurrence but prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured football supporters.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Sir Monday Uko, has urged medical personnel at the hospitals to spare no effort in providing the best of medical care for the injured, saying, that the accident will however not break the spirit of Akwa United but will only spur the team to make the state proud at all its encounters.
The team was heading to Port Harcourt for the match between Enyimba FC and Akwa United.
