More than two hundred multiple birth families across the state have been empowered by the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel with cash and gift items.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the programme, Mrs. Martha Emmanuel said the empowerment became necessary to assist the families cope with the demands of raising multiple children.
She advised the multiple birth families to accept the children as a source of blessing and appreciated her predecessor, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio for initiating the project.
The governor’s wife called on husband of the beneficiaries to encourage their wives to be involved in income generating activities, disclosing that there will be a monitoring team to oversee how well they are managing the resources given to them.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Glory Edet appreciated the Governor’s wife for the gesture and appealed to mothers of multiple births to take good care of the baby’s in spite of attendant stress in nurturing them.
The Coordinator of the programme, Mrs. Ime Ephraim Inyang appreciated the Governor’s wife for sustaining the programme noting that her continuation of the project was to empower the multiple birth mothers to be economically independent.
Responding three beneficiaries from the three Senatorial Districts thanked the Governor’s wife for her benevolence and show of love, praying that God will guide and sustain her good works.
