Sanitation update within the State

Meanwhile, the exercise which took place throughout the state involved every class of people and afforded them the opportunity to clean their surroundings.
Shops and markets were closed during the period while movement of persons and vehicles were restricted as voluntary agencies notably the Green Brigade and some Policemen assisted in enforcing the restriction.
Residents of Uyo metropolis were seen clearing culverts of debris while heavy duty vehicles deployed by the Ministry of Environment evacuated refuse from different points within the town.
The exercise however witnessed low turn-out in the rural areas as few people in some communities within Uyo Local Government Area participated.

Our camera crew spotted the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Transition Committee, Barrister Mfon Ben who said he monitored the exercise in Ikot Ofon.
Barrister Ben expressed displeasure with what he saw at the Okpo-Ikpo Market Ikot Oku Ikono junction where traders displayed wares during the period of the exercise.

There was however an impressive turn-out at Mbiabong Ikot Akpan axis of Uyo Capital City as youths mobilized themselves to fill pothole sand clear debris from water channels.
