In recognition of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly speaker’s advocacy role and the cordial relationship existing between the Legislature and the other arms, members of the forum of former Elected Local Government Chairmen in Akwa Ibom State have passed a vote of confidence on him The forum described Barrister Onofiok Luke as a stabilizing force in the Politics of the state.
Members of the forum were led to the House of Assembly Complex by a former chairman of Ibiono Ibom Mr. Godwin Ekpo who said the group is satisfied with the rebranding of the Legislature.
He said the group is proud of Barrister Luke’s advocacy Programmes and ongoing renovations at the Assembly Complex in spite of the limited resources.
A former chairman and former member representing Ukanafun State Constituency Mr. Aniekan Akpan also commended the Speakers’ leadership style, particularly the improvement in the infrastructure in the Assembly.
A vote of confidence was passed on the speaker after a motion to that effect was moved by Dr. Charles Mbong, seconded by Pastor Sunny Ibuot.
Responding to the commendation, Barrister Onofiok Luke said the Legislators were appointed to serve and not fight the executive, reiterating the desire of members of the 6th Assembly to improve their legislative, lawmaking and oversight functions, to attract development to the state as well as provide support to the Akwa Ibom State Government Industrialization Policy.
