The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress has held its maiden rally against corruption.
The rally took place at the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo.
Also the Trade Union Congress, TUC in Akwa Ibom State has risen in support of the anti corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The State Chairman of TUC, Comrade Akamba Awah in an interactive session with journalists in Uyo said that corruption negates development.
Comrade Awah, flanked by officers of the Trade Union Congress and affiliate unions maintained that corruption needed to be confronted in all ramifications and called on all to lend their voices for good governance.
Meanwhile, a joint statement by the NLC and TUC Presidents, Comrades Bobboi Kaigama and Ayuba Wabba read by Comrade Akamba Awah during the interaction calls on President Buhari to work hard to track all funds illegally taken from the common treasury and recover same to the Government.
They called for the setting up of a special Anti-corruption Court to try corruption cases in the country as well as ensure that public officers are made to publicly declare their assets.
The statement also urged the President to strengthen anti-corruption legislation and ensure that anti graft agencies extend their searchlight to states and local governments.
