In furtherance of its Cocoa Revolution Programme the Akwa Ibom State Government has emphasized its support for Cocoa Farmers in order to realize consistent high yield.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Sufficiency, Dr. Uduak Udo-Inyang stated this when he met with members of the Akwa Ibom Cocoa Association of Nigeria CAN.
Noting that Cocoa is of high value in the international market, he said supporting Cocoa Farmers to achieve high yield is a necessary step towards boosting the revenue of the state.
He observed that Cocoa planted under definite and approved condition will catapult Akwa Ibom State to the top of cocoa producing States in the country.
According to him it was with a view to achieving Cocoa revolution that the Udom administration has placed priority on Cocoa production.
The Commissioner recalled that the Governor personally flagged off Cocoa maintenance scheme in Ini and Ikono Local Government Areas in 2016 and re-assured of the State Governments readiness to collaborate with members of the Association.
The Chairman of Cocoa the Association of Nigeria, Bishop Michael Udo Akpan while congratulating Dr. Udo-Inyang on his appointment called for greater partnership with the State Government, especially with regards to registration by the State Ministry of Agriculture for Trade mark, seal and accreditation with appropriate Federal Agencies.
