Governor Udom Emmanuel has re-affirmed his administration’s commitment in improving the living standard of persons with disabilities in the state.
He stated this during this year’s international Day of persons with disabilities celebrated in the state at Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio hall, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.
Governor Udom Emmanuel who was represented by his Deputy Mr. Moses Ekpo said ways which his administration seek to improve the plights of persons with disabilities are by creating employment opportunities and empowering them through skills acquisition.
The Governor called on them to work to improve themselves noting thatgovernment has for the past years assisted them in various ways to improve their living standard.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare Dr. Glory Edet who noted that the state is celebrating the abilities and potentials of persons with disabilities said government has provided them employment into the Civil Service.
She called on individuals and groups to partner with government to give persons with disabilities a sense of belonging.
The President of persons with disabilities in the state Deacon Offiong Bassey in an address thanked the state government for celebrating them and appealed for more assistance to members of the association.
Movement Kitts, cash and hair dressing equipment were presented to members of association in the thirty-one local government areas by the Commissioner for Women Affairs.
