The Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs has proclaimed the transition of one of its members and Paramount Ruler of Eastern Obolo Local Government Area, Ubong Owen Ukafia, the Ede the fourth.
The Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs and Paramount Ruler of Uyo Local Government Area, Edidem Edem Silas Akpan who made the proclamation described Ubong Ukafia as a faithful, intelligent, diligent, articulate and dynamic Royal Father whose reign made Eastern Obolo a citadel of peace and tranquility and an abode for all.
Born into the Ede founding and ruling house of Okoroete Village on 16th November 1933 at Okoroette, He began his Primary Education at St. Silas Anglican Primary School , Okoroete in Eastern Obolo in 1940 and later left for Ikot Akpaden Methodist Church Primary School where he completed his Standard Six in 1948.
Armed with his Standard Six Certificate, he became a bell ringer, conducting Prayer Meetings and Teaching in Anglican Churches.
Owen Sylvanus Ukafia started his career in the information industry in the Nigeria Daily Standard as a proof reader and reporter between 1953-1959 and joined The Daily Times Newspaper in 1981.
He moved over to the Nigerian Chronicle, Calabar becoming a News Editor and in 1978 left for the Imo State Newspaper Corporation, the Nigerian Statesman as correspondent in charge of old Cross a River State and served in that capacity from 1978 to 1981, when he left the media industry as a seasoned and accomplished Journalist.
He was selected the village head of Okoroette, in 1984, made clan Head in 1987 and Paramount Ruler in 1999.
He fought for the creation of Eastern Obolo Local Government Area in 1996 and was appointed Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs between 2003/2004 Council Year.
