The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Emmanuel Ibiok, has described last year’s AKBC Children Carnival as potent machinery for the development of creative abilities among Akwa Ibom children and promotion of tourism in the state.
Represented by the Director of Tourism in the Ministry, Mrs Regina Udontia Bassey, the Commissioner made this known at the flag off of the maiden AKBC Children Carnival.
He encouraged the organizers of the event, the Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation and National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners NANTAP, to work towards making the Children’s Carnival an annual event in line with “Dakkada philosophy.
In her remarks, the Guest of Honour and Senior Lecturer, Department of Theatre Arts, University of Uyo, Dr. Justina Nkanga expressed delight over the initiative, to minister to the artistic well being of Akwa Ibom Children.
She commended the Chief Facilitator of the Carnival, Mr. Sunday Umanah for not relenting on his passion to educate and entertain children.
Dr. Justina Nkanga added that she was not surprised at the aesthetics of the Carnival, knowing the capability of Mr. Umanah both as the initiator of Children Talent Promo CEETEEPEE and as Resource Person for Akwa Ibom Children entry at the Abuja Carnival over the years.
The Carnival saw teeming Akwa Ibom Children dressed in costumes, led by the Carnival King and Queen in company of their parents, take off from Ibom Plaza, through Aka Road and Nsikak Eduok to the Unity Park, Udo Udoma Avenue.
Also speaking, the Chief Facilitator and Carnival Director, Mr. Sunday Umanah acknowledged the support of the management of AKBC towards the success of the event.
Mr. Umanah promised to take the second edition of the Carnival to a higher level, where troupes from outside the state will be invited to participate.
He used the opportunity to thank all those who contributed to the success of the event and encouraged parents to go home with the understanding that Akwa Ibom Children are not without talents.
Highlight of the Carnival was the inauguration of Children Creativity Movement for maximum artistic engagement of talented Akwa Ibom Children, with Ms Enobong Inyang as Co-ordinator.
