Telecommunication Expansion

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, has urged M-T-N Telecommunication’s Company to expand its network with a view to providing services to rural communities in the state.
Mr. Umanah, speaking at a retreat organized by MTN for its staff in Uyo, saw rural telecommunications network coverage as a vital means of connecting rural dwellers with the rest of the society, saying that no meaningful development can take place when rural productivity is low.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Oliver Udoukpo, also called on the Telecommunications Company to upgrade its facilities for high signal transmission in the state.
Also, the Information and Communications Commissioner, has called on journalists to avoid partisanship in their reportage, in line with the tenets of the profession.
This was contained in a keynote address presented by the Commissioner at the second Annual Lecture of Radar Newspaper.
Mr. Umanah who was represented by the Director, Archives in the Ministry, Mrs. Grace Akpan, was presented with an Award of Excellence for his contributions to the growth of the media profession in the state.
